Roofing quote template for South Africa
Short answer: a roofing quote is priced by area, so the measured square metres, the sheeting specification, the waterproofing and flashing, and the access (scaffolding) must each be on their own line. It should also carry weather and timber-repair clauses, because those cause most roofing disputes. Below is a filled-in re-sheeting example and a blank copy-paste version.
What a roofer quote needs to include
- Show the measured area. Price per m² times a stated area is much easier for a client to trust than a lump sum with no workings.
- Specify the sheeting. Profile (for example IBR), thickness, finish and fixings. This is what clients compare between roofers.
- Price waterproofing and flashings separately. Most leaks start at flashings, ridge capping and valleys, not in the middle of a sheet.
- Include access. Scaffolding or safety equipment is a real cost and a legitimate line.
- Flag suspected asbestos. If an old roof may contain asbestos, say that its removal needs specialist handling and is quoted separately, and do not guess a price.

- Quoting before measuring. An estimate by eye turns into a loss on a 100 m² roof. Put the measurement date on the quote.
- Ignoring the timber. Rotten battens are discovered only once sheets come off. A per-metre rate in the exclusions removes the argument.
- No weather clause. A client who sees "ready Friday" will not understand a rainy-week delay unless the quote said so first.
For the general structure behind any quote, read how to write a quote that gets accepted (the structure that wins the job). Not in this trade? There are also templates for plumbers, electricians, builders, painters. Once the job is done, use the matching invoice template, and if you are unsure whether to charge VAT at all, see when VAT registration applies.
