Zuvo vs QuickBooks in South Africa: full accounting or just quotes and invoices?

Zuvo Team1 November 20266 min read

Short answer: they do different jobs. QuickBooks is full accounting software with bank feeds and bookkeeping. Zuvo is a lighter tool for quoting, invoicing and getting paid, with an AI that writes the documents. If you only need to quote, invoice and hand clean numbers to your accountant, Zuvo is simpler and cheaper. If you need to run your own books, QuickBooks is the type of tool you need.

What QuickBooks is

QuickBooks is an accounting product with four plans on its South African pricing page: Simple Start (1 user), Essentials (3), Plus (5) and Advanced (25). Simple Start lists bank feeds, automated bookkeeping, invoices and payments, customer management, time entry and reports. Essentials adds multiple currencies, bill management and recurring invoices. Plus adds project profitability, inventory, purchase and sales orders, proposals with e-signatures and AI insights. Every plan lists a 30-day free trial and access for your accountant.

Where Zuvo is different

Where QuickBooks is ahead

QuickBooks does what Zuvo explicitly does not: bank feeds, bookkeeping, bill management, inventory, multiple users and project profitability. If your accountant asks you to keep the books yourself, or you want to see profit and loss without waiting for them, you need accounting software, and QuickBooks is one of the well-known options.

Questions people ask

Is QuickBooks an invoicing app or accounting software?

QuickBooks is accounting software that includes invoicing. Its plans add bank feeds, bookkeeping, bill management, inventory and project profitability on top of invoices. Zuvo only does quotes, invoices, getting paid, expenses and a VAT summary.

What does QuickBooks cost in South Africa?

QuickBooks has four plans: Simple Start (1 user), Essentials (3), Plus (5) and Advanced (25). The page we read loaded its prices dynamically, so rand amounts were not visible to us. Check the live page. Each plan has a 30-day free trial.

Do I need accounting software if I only send quotes and invoices?

Not necessarily. If you only need to quote, invoice, get paid and give your accountant the numbers, a lighter tool is enough, and your accountant keeps the books. If you want to reconcile bank transactions and see profit and loss yourself, you need accounting software.

Can Zuvo replace my accountant's software?

No. Zuvo shows a VAT summary and exports invoices, a VAT report and expenses for your accountant, but it does not do bank feeds, payroll or inventory, and it does not file your VAT return with SARS.
