Zuvo vs Zoho Invoice: a big free plan or an AI that writes the invoice?

Zuvo Team1 November 20265 min read

Short answer: Zoho Invoice's free plan is far larger than Zuvo's, and for a business that is happy filling in forms it is hard to argue with free. Zuvo is the better fit if you would rather describe the job in plain words and have the quote or invoice written for you, in a tool built around South African small business.

What Zoho Invoice is

Zoho Invoice is a global invoicing product with a South African page. Its free plan, per the page we read, includes up to two users, three projects and 500 invoices a year, with Zoho branding on documents. Features listed include tax invoices, email and PDF delivery, multiple payment options, automatic payment reminders, customisable templates, quotes, recurring invoices, expense categorisation, project tracking with timesheets, a client portal, and links to Zoho CRM, Analytics and Books.

Where Zuvo is different

Where Zoho is ahead

Zoho's free plan is much larger (500 invoices a year against Zuvo's 5 tracked documents a month), it handles two users, it has project and timesheet tracking, and it connects to a wider suite of business tools. If you bill by the hour on projects, or you expect to grow into Zoho's accounting product, that matters.

Which to choose

Choose Zoho if you want the biggest free allowance, you bill by projects or hours, or you want a path into a wider software suite. Choose Zuvo if the time you lose is in writing the quote and chasing payment, and you want an assistant that does the writing. You can start on both for free.

Questions people ask

Is Zoho Invoice really free in South Africa?

Zoho's South Africa page lists a free plan at ZAR 0 with up to two users and up to 500 invoices a year, with "Powered by Zoho Invoice" branding on documents. The page we read does not list paid plans or prices, so ask Zoho for those before you plan to outgrow the free plan.

Which is easier for a tradesperson?

It depends on how you like to work. Zoho gives you forms, templates and a lot of options. Zuvo lets you describe the job in plain words and drafts the quote or invoice for you to check. If you prefer typing into forms, Zoho is fine and free.

Does Zuvo have projects and timesheets?

No. Zoho Invoice includes project tracking and timesheets. Zuvo focuses on quotes, invoices, getting paid, expenses and a VAT summary, and says openly that it is not full accounting software.

Can I move from Zoho Invoice to Zuvo?

You can import clients and past invoices into Zuvo from a CSV, so you can bring your client list across without retyping it.
