Zuvo vs Xero in South Africa: full accounting or just quotes and invoices?
Short answer: Xero and Zuvo do different jobs. Xero is accounting software with bank reconciliation and reporting, and it costs accordingly once its introductory price ends. Zuvo is a lighter tool for quoting, invoicing and getting paid, with an AI that writes the documents. If you only need to quote, invoice and hand clean numbers to your accountant, Zuvo is simpler and cheaper. If you need to run your own books, you need accounting software like Xero.
What Xero is
Xero is accounting software with three plans on its South African pricing page: Starter, Standard and Premium. Prices are shown in rand including VAT, and new South African customers get an introductory price for the first three months. Starter lists sending quotes and 20 invoices, accepting online invoice payments (payment fees apply), entering five bills, reconciling bank transactions, Smart Document Capture, reports and a 30-day cash flow forecast. Standard adds automated bill entry, bulk reconciliation, a 60-day forecast, dashboards and budgeting. Premium adds multiple currencies, KPI analysis, a 180-day forecast and benchmarking. Xero says there are no per-user licence fees, and offers 30 days to try all features.
Where Zuvo is different
- Built for the quote and the chase. The job is writing the quote, getting it accepted, invoicing and being paid, not running the ledger.
- Plain-English drafting. Describe the work by text or voice and get a VAT-ready quote or invoice using your saved prices.
- Priced for a small operator. A free plan, then R149, R349 and R799 a month, billed in rand.
- Less to learn. No chart of accounts or bank reconciliation to set up before your first invoice.
Where Xero is ahead
Xero does what Zuvo explicitly does not: bank reconciliation, bill management, cash flow forecasting, budgeting, multiple currencies and reporting across the whole business. If your accountant asks you to keep the books yourself, or you want to see profit and loss without waiting for them, you need accounting software, and Xero is one of the best known.

Is Xero an invoicing app or accounting software?
Xero is accounting software that includes invoicing and quotes. Its plans add bank reconciliation, bill entry, cash flow forecasts and reporting on top. Zuvo only does quotes, invoices, getting paid, expenses and a VAT summary.
How much does Xero cost in South Africa?
On its South African pricing page as we read it, Starter, Standard and Premium were R97, R171.40 and R239 a month for the first three months, then R485, R857 and R1,195 a month. Prices are in rand including VAT, and the first-three-months price is a promotion for new customers that Xero can change or withdraw.
Do I need Xero if I only send quotes and invoices?
Not necessarily. If you only need to quote, invoice, get paid and give your accountant clean numbers, a lighter tool is enough and your accountant keeps the books. If you want to reconcile bank transactions and see your own profit and loss, you need accounting software.
Can I use Zuvo and Xero together?
You can use Zuvo to write and send quotes and invoices and export invoices, a VAT report and expenses as files for whoever keeps your books. Zuvo does not connect to Xero automatically.
